The Diocesan Diet

Get to know what we produce in the Diocese of Central New York.

Being faithful stewards of the land underlies many of the Biblical laws and prophetic warnings. More importantly, the Christian creation story tells us that God sees that creation is good and enjoins humans to care for it. Many of Jesus's teachings concern right stewardship of creation and promise reward in the form of fruitfulness for those who steward well. While there are all-too-familiar examples of failure to steward the land, learning to live in a right relationship to creation makes a powerful statement as an act of justice-making.

Those who promote Local Eating on the small scale speak of the connection they feel both to the land that surrounds them and the people who cultivate the land. How much more powerful, then, could that connection become if an entire diocese of Episcopalians strove to embrace the food that we produce here in Central New York? This group effort helps to restore value to local economies in a region that is economically depressed, while at the same time being rich with resources. It also strengthens fellowship and communication among parishes in the diocese as we reimagine (or learn) how best to care for our land and its people.
